Support for past trauma, in person and online
Think, Feel, and Heal Therapy offers trauma therapy in Scottsdale, Arizona, for adults who want support with painful experiences from the past. Sessions are online for people located in Arizona, California, North Carolina, and Indiana, and in person in Scottsdale on Thursdays. The practice uses EMDR and other trauma-informed approaches.
What trauma can look like:
Trauma is not only about one event. Some people carry the effects of a single event, while others carry the effects of prolonged difficult experiences. People describe it in different ways. Some notice it in their sleep, their body, or their relationships. Some feel on edge or cut off from others. Others notice very little until something brings the past back. There is no single right way to be affected, and you do not need a particular reason to ask for support. If something from your past is still weighing on you, that is reason enough to talk with someone.
How trauma-informed therapy works:
Trauma-informed care starts with safety and pace. You decide what you share and when. Your therapist's role is to help you feel steady enough to do the work, not to push you faster than feels right. My practice offers EMDR, CBT, DBT, and other trauma-informed therapies. Which approach fits you is something we will talk through together, and can be adjusted as you go. Many people find it helps to begin with what feels most manageable. Some start by talking about how the past shows up today, such as in sleep, work, or close relationships. The deeper work comes later, when you feel ready. You can slow down or pause at any point.
EMDR for trauma:
EMDR stands for eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. It is the practice's primary approach, and the therapist is certified in it. You can read about her licenses and certifications on the About me page. In EMDR, you bring a difficult memory to mind while following a guided back and forth movement, such as eye movements. Many people find that this lets them work with a painful memory without having to describe every detail out loud. Results differ from person to person, and no therapy can promise a particular outcome.
What a first session may look like:
A first session is a conversation. You can share what brought you in, ask how the practice works and see whether it feels like a good fit. Before the first session, new clients complete intake and consent forms in SimplePractice or Headway. You do not need to write out your history in a message or a form. That conversation is for your session.
Sessions, fees and insurance
Online sessions are available Monday through Friday. In-person sessions are on Thursdays at 9929 North 95th Street, Suite 101, Scottsdale, AZ 85258. Fees are $130 to $150 per session. The practice is in network with several plans, including United Healthcare, Aetna, Cigna and Optum, and can help you check your coverage. Coverage varies by plan and state, so it is worth asking.
Trauma can sometimes show up as what people call PTSD or anxiety. If one of those sounds closer to what you are living with, see our page on PTSD therapy or our page on anxiety therapy. Only a licensed professional can talk with you about what fits your situation.
